We were two. Ordered a groupier with mango cream and fish tacos. Food was ok and the service also was good. We found the location very convenient, since we were coming from Miami by bus and it seems that all the buses stop just in front of this restaurant. Prices are good compared to the average in Key West. 4 stars because they only accept cash.

We have never had a bad meal here. Today did not disappoint. We ordered takeout and walked to Mallory Square to eat before the boat races. It's not fancy but also not expensive.

Food is a little overpriced. My husband was not feeling hungry, he just ordered a hot dog, and let me tell you it was just a bun with a hot dog in it. I had the shrimp linguine "special", it was okay, but the parmesan cheese that was available was expired! The key lime pie was good though. Wouldn't eat here again.

STAY AWAY from this restaurant. My young sister asked me for $5 to buy a bowl of rice. When she came out she took a bite and spit it out slowly while looking at me with the most disgusted face. The rice was rancid ... Old and SPOILED because she described it as sour and it it smelled sour! We were so grossed out so we went back in to complain. The lady that worked there refused to give us a refund or an exchange for the rancid rice. Here attitude was almost more revolting than the rice. For a touristic cafe I was shocked at the food and service. I rarely write reviews but I felt compelled to protect people in the future from this kind of establishment. They look at you like you are only a tourist that will come once in your life and just want your money. Avoid being disappointed on your holiday vacation and stay away from Cafe Tropical.

The crab cakes are delicious!! And at around $11, you're getting a lot of taste for your money. The woman who owns the shop is a sweetheart. Great service. We also ordered the grouper with mango salsa which was solidly yummy. But the crab cakes win! And the key lime was definitely delicious.

DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE! My boyfriend and I were visiting for the day and looking for somewhere inexpensive to eat. It's in a nice spot and looked charming enough. The fact that it was empty should have turned us around. The lady immediately sat us down, recommended the more expensive "mango salmon" and brought us our drinks. She failed to mention that the water was not free. Once she went into the back room we heard the sounds of a microwave. At this point we seriously considered walking out but didn't want to be rude. While the food was being microwaved, she came out and stood guard at the front door, so leaving was no longer an option. We were less than excited when we saw the food. My boyfriend cleared his plate (it was our first meal of the day at around 3pm, there's not much he would have turned away). I couldn't finish more than a few bites. We didn't make any complaints at this point and just wanted to pay and leave, only to find out AT THE END OF THE MEAL that the place was cash only. At this point I became very irritated and explained to her that it's unacceptable not inform your customers that the water is not free, and that paying with card is not an option. I told her that I wanted a refund for my meal since it had barely been touched. She became truly nasty at this point. YELLING at us, and saying that my boyfriend clearly loved the food since his plate was empty (I asked for a refund for only my meal which was clearly barely touched). She then threatened to call the police. If I wasn't there in Key West for such a limited time, I would have allowed her to do so, since I really don't understand what she would have gained from this. I guess you can act like a lunatic when you don't have any other customers to scare away. I also told her that I've had the exact same mango salmon out of a box with the exact same seasoning. Her response..."yes, yes I'm sure you have". When I mentioned that we heard the sounds of the microwave she also said "yes, yes I'm sure you did". Followed by an explanation that she was microwaving her own lunch, since she's also allowed to eat. I have worked at restaurants before and have never needed to microwave my food for my lunch. Not sure if that excuse is more pathetic as the obvious lie that it is or if this sad establishment actually makes their employees bring in microwaveables for lunch. Also, when did you find the time to eat said lunch when you were guarding the entrance like a prison guard? I wish there was something more I could do than to leave one bad review on yelp. Tourists should be spared this experience. We save up for trips like these and take time away from work/life to have a pleasant time. This woman should not have the ability to influence people's vacations in such a deplorable way.

Over priced tourist trap!! RUN AWAY! Beware they only accept CASH and they have no ATM or any signs saying they only take cash. NOR does the waitress tell you this until AFTER the meal. Who doesn't take debit or credit cards??? It's 2014 and you are located in the heart of the tourist area??? Nothing special for the meals either it was $9.99 for both a crab cake sandwich, it was mushy and not fresh tasting - my BF asked me to try it saying "is this real crab??" Not sure if it was, it didn't taste super fresh though. My turkey and Swiss sandwich was definitely nothing special. Came with lays chips. Spent almost $30 on 2 sandwiches and 2 sodas. What a waste of money. I recommend you SKIP this place and go elsewhere.
